Happy New Year everyone! Here we are in 2021, already back in lockdown with most people either furloughed or working from home. Let's hope that the rollout of the vaccine will help bring this virus under control. I know that many people have struggled with not just their physical health but also their mental health during this pandemic and not just themselves but also that of their families and friend's health too. I have certainly struggled with the roller coaster of emotions that it has brought into my life and continues to do so and it is certainly not over yet. On top of that we are in mid winter, the weather here in Cornwall has been wet and windy for weeks with no real sign of any change on the horizon. My art has certainly been my sanctuary during these times and there is a lot to be said for being stood at an easel, listening to music with a brush in one hand and a handful paint on the other. Due to the short days, my painting sessions have been relatively short but now, as the days get longer and the evenings become lighter, I will be able to enrol in more self-help through my art.
I believe that my moods are often reflected in my work and those that know me well are able to identify with this. My latest piece "Storm Bella, Porthleven" reflects this even more. The winter has its own beauty wherever you are, and there is a lot to be said for the changes in season within our nation's landscape.
So for now, and for me, it is a case of head down, continue on and paint how my mood takes me. Soon I hope to be back out in the fields with my easel. However, for now it is important that we all desperately try to stay safe and follow the guidelines. There will be better times ahead. To have the flowers, there has to be rain. To feel the rain, we need to be outside doing our exercise. We will get through this very difficult time.
In the meantime, if there is a painting on this website that you would like, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
I am now busy preparing new work for this year's exhibitions.
