"St Ives from Carbis Bay"

This painting is a painting of Carbis Bay with the St Ives headland in the distance. It is an oil painting that measures 60cm x 60cm and is on a 11.8 oz cotton canvas.
I have started by putting in a very moody and dramatic background. I am not sure where my horizon will be yet so I have added a cloud formation which will disappear slightly under the sea when I add it. The colours used are Prussian Blue, Magenta and Titanium white. For the middle ground I have blended in C
erulean blue and then in the foreground I have added Olive green, Cadmium yellow and Lamp black.
I prefer to stand when I paint because this encourages me to step back more often and check the colour and composition.  I also tend to play music (via headphones) when I paint which helps me. I have to be careful though as if the music gets faster, I have a tendency to paint
faster... so today I have opted to listen to a Now Chill Out Album..
