About the artist...

David recently became a full-time professional artist living and working from his studio at home in Praa Sands. He is a self-taught artist having started using watercolour but now primarily uses oil and mixed media. His style of work varies from semi-abstract to representational pieces and he has a strong focus on creating texture, together with bold colour in his paintings.

Having lived in Cornwall for most of his life, David has spent most of his working life on, under or about the sea. David has developed a real understanding of the ocean and the Cornish coastline. His work reflects his own interpretation and beliefs regarding the changes to the county throughout each season. His love of hedgerows and cliff tops remind him of the times when he was at sea wishing he was on dry land and also those days when he was on dry land wishing he was at sea. David was previously a member of the St Ives RNLI crew as well as a skipper himself.

David has exhibited his work in London, the Midlands, Devon as well as in hotels in Cornwall including the Bedruthan Steps Hotel. He normally has two exhibitions per year at The Old Lifeboat Station in Porthleven. David has also run art workshops in Camborne, St Ives and Falmouth for Emergency Services Employees as part of a wellbeing programme.

In January 2023, he has started to run similar workshops in Praa Sands.
